You know you’re getting old when… you turn 28 and some solid skincare is basically the only thing on your wishlist. My sisters semi-surprised me with some good skincare finds, The Inkey List Hyaluronic Acid Serum being one of them.
The product
If you’re new to skincare, you may not gravitate to skincare brands like The Ordinary and The Inkey List. Because they’re very much ingredient-focused, it can be overwhelming to figure out exactly what you need and how to combine it. While I’m a fan of The Ordinary, I prefer how The Inkey List makes everything about the products they offer crystal clear. The way they package things leaves no stone unturned and answers each and every question on how, why and when to use their products.
The Hyaluronic Serum is the first product I’ve ever tried from The Inkey List. While I’m familiar with hyaluronic acid as part of a broader serum or cream, I’ve never used a product that is this focused on hyaluronic acid. This 2% pure formulation is aimed to instantly hydrate the skin and the Matrixyl 3000™ peptide should boost collagen production in the long run.
From The Inkey List to the INCI list – the brand does a great job of clearly listing the ingredients. Everything is out there, fuss-free, and the formulations are fragrance and cruelty-free.
This specific Hyaluronic Acid Serum is a lightweight formulation that binds moisture and retains water. While it’s indicated to use AM and PM, I only apply this in the PM and gravitate towards different products in the morning.

The review
As Caroline Hirons so brilliantly describes it in her no-nonsense skincare guide ‘Skincare‘, hyaluronic is the moist maker. Since it acts like a sponge, it’s best to layer this between products. I use this after spraying my face with a moisturising spritz and before using my night cream. You could use another serum after using the Hyaluronic Acid Serum, but I skip this step as I don’t feel like I need the added layer.
The product itself is a lightweight, clear and runny consistency. While most hyaluronic-based products can be sticky, I feel like that’s not the case with this one. It does add some grip, but the stickiness melts away as you follow up with a moisturiser.
Has my skin changed drastically since incorporating The Inkey List Hyaluronic Acid Serum into my routine? No. Has my skin been dry recently? Also, no. Although I have a greasy skin type overall, some flakiness does occur when the colder weather hits. Since I’ve been using this one, I haven’t noticed any dry patches or flakes.
For the price, I think The Inkey List Hyaluronic Acid Serum is a great skincare staple for anyone taking their first steps in an ingredient-focused skincare routine.
