REVIEW: Nivea Sun – UV Face Shine Control & Q10 Anti-Age and Anti-Pigments

Oh sunny day… with this weather we’ve been having you better stock up on all kinds of goodness to protect the skin you’re in. While most people have no problem (and they shouldn’t) slathering their body with an appropriate sunscreen factor, most tend to forget their face can suffer from UV damage as well. Time to change that.

Finding the right skincare can be difficult, but finding sun protection for your face can be even harder. Enter these UV face creams by Nivea – both with a relatively high factor. The cream with SPF 30 promises to mattify the skin and absorb excess oil in order to keep that not-so-healthy glow at bay. The cream with SPF 50 has anti-aging properties and protects the skin against sun-induced wrinkles and pigment spots. All of that while not leaving any white residu.

Both creams promise to be quite light, which is rather rare when it comes to sun protection. Sensitive skin types can react almost instantly and be bothered by impurities, causing them to skip sun protection for the face next time they step out. Bad idea.

I use the Nivea Sun UV Face Shine Control Immediate Sun Protection Absorbs Excess Oil most, since I don’t like having my face in direct sunlight for too long anyway. The cream is light (compared to other sun protection I’ve used) and is absorbed by the skin quickly. The only thing I need to pay attention too, is that I don’t apply too much. In combination with my day cream, the product tends to roll off my skin when I apply it too generously – making the sun protection go to waste. As far as the mattifying effect goes: I don’t really notice a difference and remain shiny as usual.

The Nivea Sun UV Face Q10 Anti-Age & Anti-Pigments with SPF 50 feels a little thicker, which is common in sun protection. I tend to use this one on days where I’m exposed to the sun a lot, like when I’m on vacation. I haven’t used this one enough (and am probably not at that not-so-blessed age yet) where I can really say if this cream’s anti-aging properties make a difference – sorry! This cream is also available with SPF 30.

The Nivea Sun UV Face Shine Control Immediate Sun Protection Absorbs Excess Oil SPF 30 is € 11,49 for 50 ml. The Nivea Sun UV Face Q10 Anti-Age & Anti-Pigments with SPF 30 is € 11,49 for 50 ml, the SPF 50 one is slightly more expensive at € 13,49 for 50 ml. Nivea is available at drugstores and most supermarkets.
