Nivea never ceases to innovate. The label surprised us with micellar shampoos, an anti-pollution 1 Minute Urban Detox mask and the ever-so-fluffy Body Mousses, before lauching their new-and-improved micellar formulas for the face.
Micellar seems to reign at Nivea. The brand has always sold micellar water, but decided to turn it up a notch for their new launch.
New kid in skincare town is the Nivea MicellAIR Skin Breathe Micellar Gel. This eye make-up remover is made as a gel, with an aim to give your skin a boost of oxygen with every use. It is formulated with hyaluronic acid and promises a soft cleanse while hydrating the skin at the same time. Plus, no rinse needed!
The tiny oxygen bubbles are clearly visible. In all honesty: I didn’t realise this was an eye make-up remover at first and I used it to cleanse my entire face – with no weird consequences. It’s strange somehow that this one would only be suitable for the eyes, since micellar water is usually an all-in-one product that cleanses the entire face.
The gel is light and airy and applies like a dream. I’m still not sure if the gel formula actually improves its cleansing abilities, though. It seems to works really well: my eye make-up disappears on the first try and no leftover product remains. But since I get the same results when I use regular micellar water, I’m not entirely convinced.
However, it really is fun to try. I also think this’d be a refreshing product come summer time. And just like the Body Mousses, it can be a hassle to determine how much product you need at first. But time will tell – I’m sure you’ll be quick to figure it out.
Up next: a travel size micellar water for dry or sensitive skin. I haven’t tried this one yet, since I want to save this one for mu next trip – destination: unknown, date: to be determined, budget: definitely not there yet. I like how Nivea keeps adding to the travel size range, though. It’s good to not have to part from your favourite products every time you spend some time away from home.
Last but not least, I got to try the micellar water for sensitive skin. I don’t really have a difficult skin – any problem areas are made a hundred times worse by my own useless picking and bad habits – but it never hurts to be extra careful when it comes to skincare. This one doesn’t beat my all-time favourite from Bioderma, but it does come in second. It’s super soft when cleansing your skin and my eye make-up really did seem to dissolve almost instantly. Plus: I prefer the lid on this one. It’s great for getting the product on the cotton pad, something I sometimes still struggle with when I use my Bioderma one.
Nivea can be found at most drugstores and some supermarkets. It’s also available online – allowing you to land good-quality skincare from the comfort of your home. Shop the micellair gel and micellar water for sensitive skin.
